The Petteway family has raised citrus and cattle in south central Florida for many generations. We have several businesses that operate from our headquarters in Zolfo Springs, Florida, including citrus grove caretaking, citrus tree removal and a certified citrus nursery. We live on the “home place” which consists of citrus groves and our registered Angus cattle. Our commercial herd is at our satellite ranch 10 miles from our home. Our focus turned to registered Angus when we needed bulls with the genetics that would work in our southern environment. Having purchased bulls from out of state, we found that they couldn't stand up to our environment and just melted. We purchased Angus cattle that proved they could work here and further bred our heifers to be able to stand the heat. Our program is forage based, and our cattle must work for us, not us work for them.
